Angles of Light: A Reading of Caribbean Poetry

Here is a link to Part I of Angles of Light: A Reading of Caribbean Poetry which was hosted by the Jamaican Poet Juleus Ghunta, and recently aired on the radio in the U.K. I will be part of Angles of Light Part II which airs in March. The Jamaican poet and professor Opal Adisa Palmer, gives a comprehensive introduction and background to the reading. She has been editor of a few Caribbean journals which have published me, most recently of Interviewing The Caribbean.

Poetry Ireland Review

‘Mosquito Net at Elma Napier’s Estate’ has been published in the current Poetry Ireland Review edited by the renowned Irish Poet Eavan Boland. Poetry Ireland Review is a highly-regarded journal of poetry. Published three times a year, the Review includes the work of both emerging and established Irish and international poets, essayists, critics and visual artists.

Mosquito Net at Elma Napier’s Estate

The mosquito net above the bed,
ghost of a writer who once visited her.

The spirit leaves the body above a caved
in mattress, sunken, about to collapse.

So many fictions dreamt on it. The muslin
ties at the bottom like a mango heavy in

a string market bag she bought in Baptiste.
Hangs like an exclamation mark for

the filmy subconscious more vivid than
the mountain view outside the window.

And more present than the mosquitos
gathering on its airy white slopes at night.
